Welcome!

Mon May 25, 2009, 8:50 AM
Thank you for visiting my deviantart page!

For those of you who don't know me, my name is Eryn, and I'm finishing up two bachelor degrees: Art Communication and English. My goal is to be an art teacher, so I can spread the love of fine arts and help others develop their own natural talent and technique.

I love drawing creepy, macabre things, and my specialty is black and white with ink or charcoal. I also do tons and tons of still life's in graphite or prisma colored pencils, but I always find myself going back to the weird and supernatural at some point.

I generally do not put a lot of artwork online, as there is no foolproof way to keep it from being stolen and copied. Therefore, none of my commission work is put online, unless the employer agrees that I can. (Note: I never put tattoo designs online, no matter what.) So, if it looks like I've been slacking off as far as new updates, I really haven't- I've been busy with commission work.

I'd love to hear from you with any questions or comments! You can either send me a message via deviantart, or you can email me at: seraphglow@charter.net

I also have a facebook account, so you can find me on there as well.

I'm always up for a challenge, so feel free to ask me about difficult designs, or for help with some art-related problem. If you would like to know how I "did" each of the pieces online, I'll be more than happy to show you the proper technique used.

If you are interested in commissioning me for a piece of art, please read the following journal titled "Commission Rules & Guidelines". If you are asking about full sleeve tattoos, or any other large piece, I'll need to know exact measurements to ensure that everything fits together. Sleeves/larger works will be sent to you in several parts: one is the whole "look", the other is each individual design to make it easier for your tattoo artist.

If you'd like a piece of cosplay made, or just have questions about something you're making: feel free to bug me! I love seeing fellow otaku-inspired outfits!

Once again, thank you oh-so much for visiting this site- I love getting comments and suggestions from fellow artists, as well as questions about how to make YOU better with your own work.

Well, like any new drawing style, I look at what others have done first as a starting point. If you've never drawn cartoons or manga before, I'd suggest watching some good anime and reading lots of manga. A cartoon style is pretty much like realistic drawing, except they are flattened off with less detail, and a persons attributes can be exaggerated.

Otherwise, the following website should be helpful:

They have free tutorials and computer coloring help, along with a basic supply list. The most important thing is to just scribble out a ton of designs without worrying about being good right away. It takes a bit to be comfortable with your own style, and for some people it's easier than others.

Good luck, and let me know how things turn out! ^_^
